Torquay Museum sheds light on Anglo Sikh Wars medal

As part of the celebrations of 175 years since the foundation of Torquay Museum invited the community to choose objects for an exhibition. One item chosen was a medal which was given to British soldiers after the second Anglo Sikh War and focusing on Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert (a descendant of Sir Walter Raleigh). Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert was a Major General in the BritishEast India Company. He commanded a division in the Second Anglo-Sikh war in the Punjab, fought between the Sikh Empire and the British East India Company.

The Sikh Museum Initiative assisted with providing detail regarding the medal. It is on display as part of THE SECRET MUSEUM EXHIBITION See the article in the Torbay Times.
