Leicester Adult Education
Belvoir St, Leicester, LE1 6QL

There was another great turnout to an event to support the successful Contemporary Sikh Art Exhibition in Leicester. The event was to learn more bout the motivations and background to the artists work at the exhibition. The artist involved included: Rajpal Singh (Intrinsic_Arts), Amandeep Kaur, Guneit Kaur (Quratrait), Dawinder Kaur-(Khaas Art), Stephen Barrett and Satnam Birdi and input from Jyoti Kaur.

The introduction was given by Kartar Singh and then the panel was introduced. Gurinder Singh Mann led the questions which ranged from exploring the motivations, influences and the processed behind their artwork. Influences ranged from school teachers, support of parents through to seeing popular imagery when the artist were growing up. The topic and discussion behind the artist Sobha Singh (1901 –1986) were also discussed. The area of AI and recreation of artwork was also a point of discussion with the overwhelming comments being negative towards the technology unless it was an aid to their work as there was no soul or purpose in artificially created images. The panel also agreed that it was imperative to get the history correct before creating portraiture.

There was great feedback from the people who came from across the country. Refreshments were served and the people had  chance to look through the exhibition with the artists.

See the video of the event below.

The exhibition runs until 30th May and is supported by Leicester Council ward funding.
