Sikh Empire Artefacts from Maharajah Duleep Singh to Princess Sophia Duleep Singh.
25th July 2019
Gurinder Singh Mann
Sikh Historian and Director of the Sikh Museum Initiative
Gurinder Singh Mann, Historian and Director of the Sikh Museum Initiative will discuss the types of objects that came from Punjab. He will consider relics and artefacts that were in the possession of Maharajah Duleep Singh most notably the jewellery, as well as that of his mother’s Maharani Jindan Kaur.
This leads to a fascinating story of how they were handed down to Princess Sophia Duleep Singh and her role in the Suffragette movement. There will also be a spotlight on the Anglo Sikh Online Museum where the 3d jewellery of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh is on display as part of the exhibition at Thetford.
Gurinder will be releasing his forthcoming book: The British and the Sikhs. Discovery, Warfare and Friendship (Helion & Company) later this year.
