THE SIKHS: HISTORY, FAITH IS VALUE IN THE GREAT WAR

In Cremona will be held The Exhibition “The Sikhs: History Faith is Value In the Great War” Exhibition, devoted to the contribution of value and the sacrifice offered by the Indian troops on different theatres of war, particularly on the Western (France and Belgium) Front.

The exhibition documents, with a series of historical photos of great intensity, the different moments of the war: the loyalty and the courage of the Indian soldiers, but also the sufferings of the fighters and their families. The greatest contribution in terms of busy strengths in the various operations and, accordingly, of impairments and losses of grapevine human, it was due to the Sikh, which the greatest part of the photos are devoted. The Exhibition introduces, therefore, also a preliminary Section, in which the history and the culture of this Community is illustrated, today represented in meaningful way in Italy, where live and it pacifically operates in the society and in the economic activities. It also include a portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh with Maharani Jinda, and prince Duleep Singh, lent by the British Library.

The Exhibition is lent by the International institute of Studies South Asian of Rome and it constitutes the Italian version of ” Faith & War. The Sikhs and World War One”, exposure organized by the United Kingdom Punjab Heritage Association (UKPHA) to Brunei Gallery in London last summer and in Italy, before reaching Cremona, the collection has been guest near the Angelic Library in Rome and the Museum of Oriental Art in Turin.

The event organized by the Association Cultura Sikh, has the objective to improve the knowledge of the Sikhs in Italy and to offer an occasion of meeting and exchange with the local community, in collaboration with the International institute of Studies South Asian (ISAS) of Rome, with the collaboration and the Patronage of the Commune of Cremona.

Saturday the 16th of July beginning from the hours 9.30, will take place the inauguration of the exhibition, for the occasion it will be present the Professor Fabio Scialpi of La Sapienza, Università di Rome, experienced in Asian studies, and Doctor Tiziana Lorenzetti, administrator of the collection in Italy and president of the ISAS.
