- Featuring a presentation and the role of Sophia Duleep Singh by the Sikh Museum Initiative running through the duration of the exhibition.
Looking at the stories of people who fought for women’s suffrage including Alice Hawkins, Emmeline Pankhurst and Sophia Duleep Singh.
The exhibition includes the hunger strike medal given to Alice Hawkins; family mementos of Emmeline Pankhurst who led the Suffragette Movement and clothes worn by schoolteacher Susanne Potter when she was chained to the railings and taken to Holloway Prison.
Leicester is one of seven cities in the Centenary Cities project marking 100 years of Votes for Women funded by the Government Equalities Office with a range of exhibitions, events and the launch of the Alice Hawkins statue in New Market Square.
The exhibition runs from the 27th of October to the 24th of February 2019 at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.
There will also be a lecture on Sophia Duleep Singh scheduled for 2019.
